Yesterday in church, I noticed something new on the sweet little lady's hand who always sits in the pew in front of J and me.
She had SEVERAL rings on her ring finger. As I looked closer to see what kind they were, it hit me. It was her late husband's wedding band, along with her own wedding bands.
He recently went to heaven after a sudden illness.
I immediately teared up.
It was so precious seeing her tiny little finger with his ring hugging hers.
And I remembered how sweet they were together each Sunday. I remembered when the Pastor was doing an entire series of sermons on marriage. Her husband would put his arm around her and hold her tightly. When Pastor would tell a funny story about marriage, he would look at her and they would smile and even laugh! I'm sure they had so many stories behind those smiles and that laughter. They must have had so many adventures together. And I am also sure there were hard times as well. Whether they had health problems, financial problems, illnesses - they obviously weathered them together.
They were married for over fifty years, I believe. And whatever trials they experienced, they took the journey together. And stayed together.
This sweet lady has no idea how much her husband's ring were a witness to me.
The example this couple set is priceless.
You do NOT marry a perfect person. You marry someone who is perfect for you, and whom you want to grow and change and share your life with.
I also admire her coming to church and continuing to see what God has in store for her life, even though her husband beat her to heaven.
I'm going to pray for this sweet lady everyday.
I'm sure that there are days that she misses him so.
But she can rest on the promise that he is in heaven and is healthy and anxiously awaiting to see her again.
